For some people, a trip to Lourdes in France means prayer, contemplation and quiet self-reflection. For one group of young, disabled Scousers, it means alcohol, debauchery, fornication and definitely no miracle cures! Cured will inspire, develop and celebrate excellence in disability arts by providing the opportunity for disability-led work to be presented to non-traditional theatre audiences in a recently-renovated theatre, Liverpool’s Royal Court. It will be their first disability-led project, helping the theatre to fulfil its aims to create more accessible and inclusive productions.
The script will be developed through workshops and mentoring involving the theatre’s creative team and director Robert Softley Gale. The project will result in a performed reading of Cured by professional disabled actors on the Liverpool Royal Court’s main stage during DaDaFest on 12 November 2018. Audience feedback will be used to further develop the play for the stage.
