The National Student
August 2006

Rating (out of 5):

Jimmy Savile never fixed it for me nor, I suspect, for you either. Laurence Clark got on Jim’ll Fix It but was cruelly denied both his request and his badge, and herein lies the foundation of this show. The hopes of an entire generation being dashed by a naff Saturday teatime TV may seem like a whimsical lightweight nostalgia fest but Clark’s intelligence and acerbic wit make it much, much more. With his assaults upon religion and being patronised because he’s in a wheelchair, and his Dr Who fanaticism, it is also very, very funny. And Clark’s PHd in IT hasn’t gone to waste: the Powerpoint visual aids make this show slicker than Brylcreem.
