Laurence Clark - 12% evil?

Disabled comedian Laurence Clark returns to Edinburgh with a new comedy show that explores stereotypes and asks the audience if he really is 12% evil.

London (4 May 2007). Comedian Laurence Clark is pleased to announce that he is taking a brand new show, 12% Evil to the 2007 Edinburgh Fringe comedy festival.

The show explores whether, in this so-called PC generation, we still tend to stereotype disabled people as pitiable, brave, charity cases, invisible, comical, fakes, scroungers, etc. It takes its title from the many famous villains who were portrayed as disabled in order to make them seem sinister and evil; e.g, Richard III, Long John Silver, Captain Hook, Dr Strangelove, various Bond baddies and… Heather Mills-McCartney! By the end of the show, the audience will have decided if Laurence really is 12% evil and Bond villain material.

Leaving no stone unturned, Laurence dares to ask questions such as… do wheelchair users really get up and walk like Andy Pipkin from Little Britain when no-one’s looking? Are parking badges and benefit books the only lifestyle perk of being disabled? Is it brave and courageous to play death-defying sports in a wheelchair… or just plain stupid?

Heavy on humour, sharp stand-up routines and brilliant observations are intercut with viciously funny stunts involving the general public, filmed on the streets of London. The result is an hour of hilarious, thought-provoking, unique comedy.

“He's such an astute, piercing and funny commentator. You feel he could tackle any topic – he wouldn't be out of place on Have I Got News For You.” Steve Bennett, Chortle

“Viciously funny… not since Robert Newman have I seen a comic who made me think so much and realise I knew so little. Go. Think. Laugh.” Kate Copstick, The Scotsman

“Watch out for Laurence Clark; he’s very funny” The Guardian

“Laurence Clark could easily rival the likes of Mark Thomas… he is a brilliant observational comedian. I would not only recommend this show but urge everyone to go out and buy a ticket immediately” Edinburghguide.com
